National Cancer Survivors Day

Sunday June 4th, 2017 marked the 30th annual National Cancer Survivors Day hosted by the National Cancer Institute (NCI). In the last quarter century, the number of cancer survivors has doubled and that number continues to grow. The National Cancer Institute conducts numerous studies and trials in hopes to find ways to improve the quality of life for both cancer patients and cancer survivors.

To honor this day Douglas Lowy, the acting director of the NCI wrote, “To all survivors and your loved ones, I am humbled by your courage, strength, and determination. You are the reason we do what we do.” Every day the NCI works tirelessly to keep advancing cancer research to find more effective and less toxic forms of cancer treatment to help minimize the chance of second cancers forming.
