Older American Month
The month of May is Older American Month during which we honor the older American community. President John F. Kennedy first recognized May as Older American Month in 1963 and since then, every president has proclaimed May as the Older American Month. The Administration for Community Living (ACL) states that this month gives the older Americans a chance to “age out loud and give aging a new choice- one that reflects what today’s older adults have to say.” This month highlights how older Americans are now working longer, trying new things and are more engaged in their communities.
Older American Month initially started to raise awareness about the concerns of older Americans. In 1963 there were only 17 million Americans who reached their 65th birthday and one third of those who did were living in poverty without being able to receive the care they needed. Pidgeon and Pidgeon honors our older American clients as we provide our personal legal services. Such services include drafting wills, living wills and power of attorney documents to lessen our clients worries concerning illness and end of life issues. We also assist in estate administration and real estate matters.
